Water, Sanitation And Hygiene

CCI works with children in 27 villages surrounding 9 primary schools on how to manage and maintain water source, soap making under wash project, forming health club in school, training girls on how to use re-useable pads in the villages using the local available materials to promote general hygiene.

Prevention & Response To HIV/AIDS And Malaria

CCI recognizes the needs for healthy living of the community living with HIV AIDS, to date over 20,000 people have been reached with one of the services in the two districts benefiting from the project. Malaria prevention, TB, Nutrition SRH, protection for target groups of children, PHA, pregnant women and couples in the entire Lira district. CCI also supported over 4000 people in Lira municipality affected with HIV/AIDS under the project of strengthening care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS and enrolling new PHAs into care and treatment supported by Infectious Diseases Institutes (IDI) with funding from Civil Society Fund (CSF). These were through follow ups of lost to follow clients, supporting prevention measures, mobilization for HCT services and sensitization of community members on HIV/AIDs prevention and response services. Nutrition support, livelihood support and strengthened the groups of positive living youths and women within Lira Municipality.

Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)

The organization promote MHM in the local communities where it operates in order to reduce high rate of school drop outs and absenteeism among girls at the menstrual age in primary schools. CCI support three key areas namely; capacity building of school authorities to ensure right structures which support girls to manage menstruation are in place; Infrastructure development such as changing rooms for girls and disposal facilities for used sanitary pads; and as well support supply chain development to ensure there is supply for local and affordable reusable sanitary pads and proper washing materials are available. Here CCI trains senior male and women teachers who support these girls, both girls and boys are trained to make reusable sanitary pads in order to support girls. It is innovative and effective to involve boys to support their sisters during their menstrual period. Women groups are trained on making liquid and bar soaps, reusable menstrual pads and shower gel as part of income generating activity.

Mental Health And Psychosocial Support

CCI-Uganda provides psychological support to orphans and the HIV/AIDS infected person, victims of GBV, formerly abducted children and OVC. These services are counseling, sports and referral; CCI-Uganda also formed youth and women peace clubs who continuously talked about peace to other communities members; we organized different sporting competitions for different age groups as a means of promoting unity and strong resilience for the formerly abducted groups as a coping mechanism to help them come to terms with the situations they underwent while with the rebels.
